Ilula Lutheran Hospital is owned and being operated by the ELCT Iringa Diocese, which is located in Kilolo District in the Iringa Region. Despite Ilula Lutheran Hospital, there are other health facilities, namely, Kilolo Council District Hospital, Kidabaga Health Centre, Ilula Health Centre, Nyalumbu Health Centre, and Ruahambuyuni Health Centre, which are owned by the government, while Mtandika Health Centre is owned by Roman Catholic. Ilula Lutheran Hospital is providing health services at the district level. The hospital is located in Ilula Ward along the Tanzania-Zambia highway near the notorious Kitonga Hill, where the accidents happened due to the road being very busy throughout the day and night. Ilula Lutheran Hospital is operating at District level.

Officially the hospital is registered with No. 111202 with a 100-bed capacity. The hospital serves a catchment area of two Divisions which are Mazombe and Mahenge with a population of people of more than 150,000; its service area covers the whole of Ilula and Nyalumbu Wards with an estimated population of more than 35,000 people.
