We are grateful to have successfully completed a three-day Palliative Care Training for Health Professionals, organized by ELCT Health and Diakonia Directorate through the Palliative Care Program, with support from our valued partner, ELCA.
The training brought together clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers to strengthen holistic palliative care for patients and families facing chronic and life-limiting illnesses. We were also honored by the participation of the Ministry of Health, Palliative Care Unit, which strengthened learning and collaboration.
Participants reflected on common misconceptions in palliative care, including the belief that nothing more can be done for patients with advanced cancer and the fear that morphine use for severe pain may automatically lead to addiction.
The training emphasized one key message: even when a cure is not possible, care is always possible. Palliative care is about relieving suffering, supporting families, and preserving dignity.
Together, we continue to build a health system where no patient faces serious illness alone.
